Design
One off handmade pieces from individual designers are my speciality.
My artistic background means that I like to see the work of small jewellery designers and help them to sell their work by taking some of their bespoke pieces and seeing if my clients like them. If they do I suggest commissioned pieces from the designer. This way the creative process continues for both the designer and the client.
Also the client often wants to personalise their piece with drawings or engravings, or even incorporate their own gold or stones into a piece, so that it becomes a bespoke jewellery design done in collaboration. I encourage clients to bring photos, ideas from the internet, magazines or sketches to me to develop their ideas.
All jewellery has an emotional quality or meaning.
This is always the starting point for me.
Why does the client want the piece they want?
Or, after talking about their feelings regarding the jewellery design, can I advise or suggest something in keeping with their sentiments?
My desire is to produce unique pieces by listening to my clients and using my experience of jewellery design and materials to enhance their choices.
Copies of old and new designs can be made in stronger or different materials from the originals. Usually my advice about this type of work is guided by the goldsmiths who do the work and whose concern will be for the durability of the piece (precious metals only used).
Also converting an old piece of jewellery into something else is often possible, such as earrings into rings, rings into brooches, brooches into pendants or even a buckle into a pendant!
